Inside Tainan

Privacy Policy

We keep this simple, because our approach to your information is simple: we collect almost nothing personal, we never sell anything, and we don't send spam. This page explains exactly what we do, what the tools we use do, and what may change as the site grows.

Last updated: June 2026.

Who we are

Inside Tainan is a personal travel guide to Tainan, Taiwan, written by two people who live here. This policy covers the website at insidetainan.com.

What we collect

  • Your email address, but only if you give it to us. If you type your email into one of our sign-up boxes, we store that email. If you never fill in a form, we never have it.
  • Anonymous, aggregate usage data. Like most websites, we measure general traffic: which pages get read, roughly what region visitors come from, what device and browser they use, and how they found us. This is statistical and aggregate. We are not trying to identify you personally, and we don't.

We do not ask for, collect, or store your name, address, phone number, payment details, or anything else.

How we use your email

This is the part that matters most, so we'll be direct about it.

If you give us your email, we will use it for one purpose only: to contact you in the future about our local tours, if and when we launch them. That's it.

  • We will not send you spam.
  • We will not send you other people's offers, ads, or promotions.
  • We will not sell, rent, or share your email with anyone.
  • We may not email you at all for a long time, possibly not until the tours are actually ready.

If we ever change what we'd use your email for, we would ask you first, not assume.

Cookies and the tools we use

We use a small number of Google tools to understand how the site is doing and to keep it running well. Here is exactly what they are and what they do.

  • Google Tag Manager. This is a container that loads the measurement tags below. By itself it does not collect personal information about you; it just manages which tools run on the site.
  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics (loaded through Tag Manager) to see aggregate traffic: page views, approximate location by region, device and browser type, and how visitors arrive. It uses cookies to do this. The data is statistical and is not used to identify you.
  • Google Search Console. We use this to see how our pages appear in Google Search. It works from Google's own search data and does not place anything on this site or collect information from your visit here.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, and the site will still work normally. If you'd like to opt out of Google Analytics specifically, Google offers a browser add-on to opt out.

Tools we may add in the future

As the site grows, we may add a couple of other tools. We're listing them now so this policy stays honest as things change.

  • Interaction and heatmap analytics. We may add a tool such as Crazy Egg (or similar) that shows, in aggregate, where visitors click and how far they scroll, so we can improve page layout and find what's confusing. This kind of tool records patterns of interaction, not your identity.
  • Advertising. We do not run ads today. If the site's traffic grows enough to make it worthwhile, we may display ads through Google AdSense. If and when we do: third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You will be able to opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ads Settings, and out of many third-party advertising cookies at aboutads.info. You can read how Google uses data on partner sites in Google's partner-sites notice.

If we turn either of these on, the relevant section above will move from "may" to "do," and we'll update the date on this page.

Your choices

You're in control:

  • Cookies: block or delete them anytime in your browser settings.
  • Analytics: opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out add-on.
  • Ads: if we ever run them, control personalized advertising at Google's Ads Settings.
  • Your email: if you've signed up and want us to delete it, just ask. Reach us through our Work with us page and we'll remove it.

A note on our recommendations

Everything we recommend on this site is our personal opinion, shared for general information and for entertainment. Places change, hours change, and businesses close. Always do your own research and call ahead before you build a plan around anything you read here. See our Terms of Use for more.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the date at the top. Continued use of the site means you're okay with the current version.
