The most central of the big three and the easiest to reach from the old town, and the answer when someone asks what's open on a Monday or Tuesday. It's been running since the 1980s.
Since 2023 it's really two markets side by side. When the land lease ended that August, the site split: the original team still runs Dadong (大東夜市), about 40 stalls and mostly food, and Dadong East (大東東夜市) opened next door with about 400 stalls of food, games and goods. The wall between them has since come down, so you can walk straight through. Some stalls are only on one side, so we note which below where the sources say.

Where people point
The stalls food writers and the city's own guides name most, with the most-mentioned first. Stalls move between markets on different nights, so where a source gives days, we include them. Look for the name on the sign.
- 古曼蔥油餅. Scallion pancake, crisp outside and chewy inside, and it sells out. On the Dadong East side, Tuesday and Friday only, 18:00 to midnight.
- 延記臭豆腐. Crispy stinky tofu with pickled cabbage, here on Monday, Tuesday and Friday (it also works Garden).
- 德聖醬燒雞排. Grilled chicken cutlet with a choice of three sauces, at the entrance to Dadong East.
- 阿桂嬤祖傳養生湯. Herbal pork rib soup, in the front section near the Dadong entrance.
- 膳品香酥排骨. Crispy fried pork chop.
- 豬小弟煎餃. Pan-fried dumplings.
- 阿美嬤紅茶奶. Tainan-style black tea with milk.
Good to know
- Bring cash. Cards are rare at the stalls.
- Go hungry and graze. Portions are small by design so you can try more.
- Follow the queues. A long local line is the best review there is.
