Tainan's oldest night market, running since 1984, and the most old-school of the big three: classic southern hawking energy, plenty of carnival games, and a tidy grid that's easy to walk. Friday was added in September 2023, so it now runs Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
It's smaller and calmer than Garden, which is exactly why we like it. A Wednesday here is one of the best ways to eat with Tainan locals instead of tour groups.

Where people point
The stalls food writers and the city's own guides name most, with the most-mentioned first. Stalls move between markets on different nights, so where a source gives days, we include them. Look for the name on the sign.
- 陳家阿嬤拔絲地瓜（芋頭）. Candied sweet potato and taro with the sugar pull, from a third-generation family stall; usually the longest queue in the market.
- 阿堯師雞蛋糕. Little egg cakes, made here for over 40 years.
- 蕃薯潘地瓜球. Big, puffy sweet potato balls from the main store of a well-known stall. Wednesday and Saturday only, 18:00 to 23:00.
- 三輪車大腸香腸. Taiwanese sausage grilled with basil.
- 京典酵素臭豆腐. Stinky tofu.
- 茄萣東山鴨頭. Braised duck heads.
- 小鬍子煎餃. Pan-fried dumplings, here on Wednesdays.
Good to know
- Bring cash. Cards are rare at the stalls.
- Go hungry and graze. Portions are small by design so you can try more.
- Follow the queues. A long local line is the best review there is.
